Physical Description

The blade is spear-pointed with a prominent medial ridge. Towards the base the blade narrows and then expands to form two small upward curving flukes. Below this is a blurred moulding above a small octagonal socket. Fitted around the shaft below the socket is a tube of iron with three moulded rings at each end. The haft is of reddish wood.

Dimensions

Dimensions: The length of the head and socket is 553 mm, the length of the metal sleeve being 252 mm and the length of the shaft being 1377 mm. Weight: The weight of the spear is 1.365 kg.

Inscriptions and Marks

Painted 12/72 and stamped M.A. 1628. On the socket is roughly chiselled IX.
