Notes

Several similar partizans are known: one is in the Wallace collection, (catalogue no. A1009). This is a partizan for the Garde de la Manche, the closest bodyguard of the French Kings. See A.V.B. Norman, 'A State Partizan by Jean Berain for a Royal Wedding' 'Metropolitan Museum Journal', vol. 32 (1997), pp. 141-144 (copy on inventory file). Another similar partizan was the subject of Conservation work at the Institut d'Armes Anciennes in September/October 1988 (from a private collection), and correspondence relating to this partizan is on the inventory file.
