Physical Description

It is formed of a thin sheet of lattern of rectangular form with cropped corners. The plate is very slightly curved in its longtitudinal axis. Its centre is pierced with a small hole containing a latten rivet which a large flat head. The head occurs on the convex, presumably outer, face of the plate and is slightly spaced away from the surface plate to allow for a missing fabric or leather covering.

Notes

It was excavated from the foreshore ofthe river Thames in the city of London shortly before the date of its presenation. It is perhaps from the same defence as the scale III.4210 which was recovered from the same area of excavation. Other scales of a similar character are stated to have been found in that arrea of excavation a few weeks earlier, but were evidently discarded as being of no interest.
