Physical Description

It is formed of a thin sheet of lattern of slightly tapering, rectangular form with cropped corners. The plate is very slightly curved in its lateral axis. It is pierced at its centre with a small hole for a missing rivet which would have atached it to a fabric or leather covering or lining.

It was excavated from the foreshore ofthe river Thames in the city of London shortly before the date of its presenation. It is perhaps from the same defence as the scale III.4209 which was recovered from the same area of excavation. Other scales of a similar character are stated to have been found in that arrea of excavation a few weeks earlier, but were evidently discarded as being of no interest.
