Physical Description

It is formed of eight upward overlapping lames which extend from the groin to above the knee. The lames become progressively more curved from the first to the last. The last lame, which is considerably longer and deeper than the rest, has a slightly flaring lower edge which is inwardly turned and bordered by a single incised line. The upper edge of the first lame is partially turned and is bordered by a single incised line. The lames are connected to one another at the outer side by a single column of round-headed rivets with internal octagonal washers. In the centre and at the inner side the lames are connected by an internal leather. Those at the inner side have external dummy rivets filling construction holes. The strap ends for the leathers are retained at the lowest lame by a round headed rivet. Both leathers are now detatched from the lowest lame. The dummy rivet between the second and third lame on the inner side is missing, and the dummy rivet between the first and second lame on the inner side has been replaced with a modern screw and external washer. The first lame has a relatively modern single-ended iron buckle at either side. Each buckle has a rectangular loop and a rectangular haspe with cropped edges.
