Notes

This helmet appears to conform to the pattern of privately manufactured helmets made between late 1915 and early 1916 by Henry Heath Ltd, of 105-107 Oxford Street, London. The shortage of issue Hadfield helmets meant that many Officers purchased their own commercially produced helmets. These rare fluted skull examples were banned for front line use by the British Government in mid 1916, as they proved to be structurally weak, and did not meet the standard of the Hadfield helmet. Examples are now very scarce.
