Physical Description

Dark coloured stock that may have been painted, chipped areas showing bright red. The butt-cap is a composite of two ivory plates with what appears a a layer of ebony between them. The stock is long and narrow, pentagonal in section with simple ivory medallions in the sides. There are iron side plates with simple dentated rear edges held in place by rivets and nails with floral copper washers. At the breech is a brass band that arches over the barrel, slotted for the rear-sight. Four brass bands hold the barrel to the stock. The simple round barrel is painted black but shows no evidence of decoration. There is an iron ramrod.

Dimensions: The overall length of the gun is 1784 mm, the length of the barrel being 1323 mm. Weight: The gun weighs 3.05 kg.

Stamped on the stock is MA 2382, whilst in white paint on the upper edge of the stock, and again on the side is the number 17/21
