Provenance

Found in the Lanthorn Tower, Rm 4, 30/07/1990.

Physical Description

Rectangular piece of brown leather, the shorter ends of which are sewn together and which would orginally have fitted around the top of a Sam Browne scabbard adjacent to the mouth. A transverse cut-out runs around 5/6ths of the locket 1/3rd of the way down from the mouth, to engage a corresponding rib on the scabbard. A strap is attached (riveted and sewn) to the front of the locket. The end of the strap has a longitudinal slot to engage a stud.

Condition: The stitching is coming undone, and the strap is fracturing around the stud slot.
