Notes

'Additions to the Armouries after 1916' This item is recorded as a 'Bit of pierced steel with devil in the cage mouth'.
'Index Cards' also records as a bit but then go on to question it as follows 'This object seems too narrow and the wrong shape for a bit. The position of the monkey suggests that it is meant to be used in a vertical position, perhaps as a support for hanging lamp.'
Both sources say 'presented by Presented by Mr F.H. Cripps-Day, 1942.
