XIX.121 is ex C.G. Vokes Collection, Alton (Sotheby's, 27 March 1952, Lot 134); XIX.192 was bought privately in 1946. Both are believed to have come from the same collection in Chichester with the tradition that they were dredged up from the Solent. Cf. Nos XIX.114, 192.

Physical Description

The gun is of slender form and is cast with a series of projecting bands as far as the reinforce. There is also a projecting band carrying the trunnions, to which is fixed a heavy pivot. The breech end of each gun finishes in a hollow socket to take the wooden tiller; on the socket are the remains of an inscription in Chinese characters. There is a rear sight at the base of the breech, and the projecting band at the muzzle is drilled for a fore sight, now missing
