Physical Description

Shaped to the shoulders with a raised neck-opening and a shallow flange at the waist. The edges at the neck-opening, arm-openings and waist-flange have file-roped inward turns, accompanied at the neck by eight brass lining rivets, that at the left and right ends replaced by a flattened rivet, the 2nd rivet at the left end a later insertion, now broken. All are fitted with (probably later) internal circular brass washers, except the 2nd left rivet which has an original irregular square washer. The waist-flange has nine brass lining rivets, that at the left and right ends replaced by flattened brass rivets, the 5th and 8th from the left now missing. The rivets are fitted with (probably later) internal circular brass washers, except for the 5th to 8th, which are missing. The turns at the neck and arms are bordered by single incised line decoration. That at the neck descends to form the central line of a medial band of triple incised line decoration. From either side of the waist issues a slightly curved band of triple incised line decoration, its upper end bifurcated where it meets the arm-opening. The lower corner of each arm-opening is stepped down to the waist edge.

At either shoulder are two rivets which originally secured the shoulder strap, the inner at the left shoulder and outer at the right shoulder now missing. At each side of the upper arm-opening is a flattened rivet of indeterminate function.
At either side of the waist are two horizontally-aligned rivets which retain fragments of the leather waist strap.

The external surface of the back has laminated in places, as has the left side of the waist-flange. The right end of the waist-flange has a nick in the lower edge. The left shoulder edge has split slightly.

It is externally bright but patinated.
