Physical Description

It has a shallow cut-out at the neck, shallow arm-openings and a medial keel terminating in a triangular facet just above the waist, which has a flange that deepens to a point at its centre. The neck, arm-openings and waist-flange have plain, inward-turns, accompanied by numerous pairs of small holes for stitching on a missing leather edging for the attachment of a lining. A decorative gilt brass edging has subsequently been soldered in place of the leather edging. The edges are bordered by thirty brass rivets of large round-headed form of which the two at each shoulder are of flat headed form, and the remainder of high round-headed form. The rivets are fitted with large roughly cut cicular internal washers, retaining fragments of a leather lining band. Four of these washers are now missing. At either side of the chest is riveted an mushroom-shaped brass stud, to engage the shoulder-straps of the backplate. Two later holes have been pierced at either corner at the shoulder. Bright.
