Physical Description

It has a deep cut-out at the neck, shallow arm-openings and a medial keel terminating in a triangular facet just above the waist, which has a flange that deepens to a point at its centre. The neck, arm-openings and waist-flange have plain, inward-turns, those at the sides have been removed. The edges are accompanied by numerous pairs of small holes for stitching on a missing leather edging for the attachment of a lining. Part of the leather edgeing suyrvives at the neck and arm-openings. The edges are bordered by twenty four brass rivets of low round-headed form. The rivets are fitted with large roughly cut rectangular internal washers, however those at the waist are circular in form. The washers retain fragments of a canvas lining band. At either side of the chest a hole is pierced which originally held a mushroom-shaped brass stud, to engage the shoulder-straps of the backplate. Painted silver.
