Physical Description

Beaked steel pommel, slotted to the rear for the rifle-bar, and fitted with a leaf-spring catch attached to the grip by a screw, and operated by a button on the inside.
Grip formed from two chequered leather 'scales', secured through the tang by three rivets. The guard is drilled with a single hole on the inside. Pommel stamped (inside): crowned 8, 426, 30 in punched dots; (outside): crowned S over 2 (?). Guard stamped on outside of guard: crowned S over 18. Blade stamped (outside): L, crowned S over 14; (back): crowbed S over (1)8.
