Physical Description

Hilt: iron hilt with flattened spherical pommel having a small tang button and chiselled foliage decoration. The basket guard similarly decorated. The grip of oval section, swelling at the centre, and bound with twisted wire.


Blade: straight, single edged with a false edge near the point. The forte is decorated with strapwork, a trophy, a crowned cartouche bearing the French royal arms, the sun in splendour and the legend 'VIVE LE ROY'. The decoration has been deliberately defaced.
