Physical Description

Long stiff spike, a short, oblong 'ricasso' at the base is incised with a scale pattern on its wider faces which extend as langets to form, at their upper ends, two sides of an open socket. The latter is completed by two similar but separate langets. A hammer head terminates in four long pointed claws and is balanced at the rear of a central block by a strong, slightly down-curved fluke. The block, which is pierced, fits closely against the spike and is retained by a transverse bolt with pyramidal terminals. The socket is reinforced at the bottom by a steel collar.
