Physical Description

The breastplate has an upward flanged cut-out at the neck and a medial keel terminating in a point at the waist, which is level and has a flange. The arm and neck edges have plain inwardly turned, and bordered by a single incised line. At either side of the chest is a hole for the missing studs for fastening the shoulder straps. A pair of later belt hooks of flat iron were riveted at each side, only the right survives. The left shoulder bears a proof mark. Bright and patinated.

Inscriptions and Marks

Struck inside the righe of the waist-flange 'VIII' upside down, and to the outside this mark with five horizontal strokes with a vertical line through them.
