Physical Description

It has a deep cut-out at the neck, shallow arm-openings and a medial ridge terminating just above the inward-angled waist, which has a flange that deepens towards its centre. The neck-opening is outward flanged. The arm-openings, the sides and the waist-flange haveplain,inward-turns. The edges were originally bordered by thirty four large brass rivets of which the two at each shoulder may originally have been of flat-headed form, and the remainder are of low rounded headed form. These rivets have circular internal washers containing fragments of leather lining. The outer rivet on the left shoulder is missing its circular internal washer. The inner rivet at each shoulder is now missing, The central rivet as well as the second rivet on the right is missing. At the bottom of both arm openings a rivet is missing. At either side of the chest is riveted a brass mushroom-shaped stud, to engage the shoulder-straps of the backplate. Bright and lightly patinated.
