From Malta. On loan L50 to Coningsby Museum, Hereford.

Physical Description

It has a short peascod and a narrow flange at the waist. The neck has a roped inward turn, and at either arm are three rivet hoes for the missing gussets. Subsidiary edges are bordered by double incised lines. The flange has two rivet holes at the left and 3 at the right for the missing fauld. It is embossed with adorsed volutes etched with the Angel Gabriel and the Virgin on a pearled ground, and joined to the shoulders by curved roped ribs. A Maltese cross is etched low at the left, with an etched double cord passing up to either side of the neck.
