Inscriptions and Marks

Barrel stamped on left of breech with crowned GR over Broad Arrow and crown over crossed sceptres. Lower half of barrel stamped [BAYLIS] (i.e. BAYLIS but uncertain as rubbed); XI IIIXI and IS. Property mark in centre. Stamped on right by pan: crown over 20, and on tang: crown over 14. Lockplate engraved with royal cypher and TOWER, and stamped with crown over Broad Arrow.Sideplate flat stamped: 38[7] (i.e. 387, but possibly 8); cursive [62] (i.e. crsive 62 but uncertain); * . Butt stamped on right with Ordnance storekeeper's mark. Underside of butt to right of guard stamped twice with crown over 7, and [IR] (i.e. IR but uncertain, I irregular and possibly M on side, R possibly T).Ramrod groove: front section (front to rear) stamped: crown over [8], crown over [?] (i.e crown over 8, crown over ?, both numbers uncertain); rear section: XI ; [N] (i.e. N but could be Z). Ramrod stamped: crown; [R]S (i.e. RS the R uncertain, possibly H; large black dot
