Inscriptions and Marks

Barrel stamped on left of breech with crowned GR over Broad Arrow and crown over crossed sceptres. Property mark in centre. Stamped on right by pan: crown over 4[1] (i.e. crown over 41, but possibly 47, and on tang: crown (number lost over edge). Lockplate engraved with royal cypher and TOWER, and stamped with crown over Broad Arrow. Stamped on inside of cock: [S] (i.e. S but uncertain). Sideplate flat stamped: 460; I.M; *. Butt stamped on right with Ordnance storekeeper's mark. Underside of butt to right of guard stamped with crown over 7 and possible 2nd crown mark, plus WM. Ramrod groove: front section (front to rear) stamped twice with crown over ?; middle section: crown over IVIII and sideways S; rear section: MARWOOD W [TW] (i.e. TW but uncertain). Ramrod stamped: crown; mark possibly incomplete IG or sideways S
