Physical Description

Blued action and barrel, And stamped on right side is crowned VR over ENFIELD over 1874 over crowned broad arrow over II. Fully stocked with two barrel bands, the forward having an integral bayonet lug and sling swival. The barrel is fitted with a foresight and an adjustable rear sight. There is a hacksaw cut just forward of the breech

Stamped on left side of stock are the following marks: opposed broad arrows for sold out of service. Re- conditioning stamp for Birmingham with the date 3.1885. The second class reserve stamp. regimental stamp. stamped S-X infront of the loading gate

This weapon has been deactivated by the Royal Armouries Workshop [ A.Gordon], by welding a steel bar beneath and into the barrel, the extractor and the firing pin face have been shaved at an angle.
Not passed by proof house and therefore does not carry official deactiviation mark.
