Physical Description

It has a high, hemispherical skull with a narrow integral brim turned down at each side. It is made in two halves joined at the skull in a low medial comb, and at the brim with rivets. The comb, which increases in height at its apex, is turned to the right, while the brim has a plain inward turn, accompanied by a recessed border containing fifteen lining rivets with internal square washers of which one at each side is missing. The base of the skull is encircled by sixteen lining rivets of which two at each side were also for the attachment by connecting leathers of the missing cheekpieces. At either side of the base of the comb, at the nape, is a rivet hole for the attachment of the missing plume holder. It is painted silver on the outside and red on the inside brim. The front border of the brim is crudely pierced with a later suspension hole. The skull is dented and damaged and is repaired on the left by a patch with six rivets, on the right by a patch with eight and at the centre right of the brim by a patch with two rivets.
