Bowyer Tower AS 72 (1988)

Physical Description

It has a high hemispherical skull with a narrow integral brim, turned down at each side. It is made in two halves, joined at the skull in a low medial comb and at the brim with rivets. The comb, which increases in height at its apex, is turned to the right, while the brim has a plain inward turn accompanied by a recessed border originally containing eighteen round headed lining rivets with internal square washers of which the front centre rivet is missing and the hole is broken out. The base of the skull was originally encircled by sixteen round headed rivets of which two on either side rear of centre are missing for the absent cheekpieces. Attached by a pair of rivets at the nape is a deep tapering plume holder with obtusely pointed arms. The rear border of the brim is crudely pierced with a later suspension hole. There is a minor crack between the two halves at both the front and back of the comb. The right side of the brim rear of centre is missing a small bit of its turned edge. Painted black.
