Physical Description

It has a high, hemispherical skull with an integral brim turned down at either side. It is made in two pieces joined in a very low comb, turned to the left and riveted at the brim. The main edge has a plain, inward turn with a sunken border once containing fourteen lining rivets with square internal washers, of which the middle one on the left is missing. The base of the skull was bordered by fourteen rivets, of which the middle three at either side may have served to attach the leathers for the missing cheekpieces, the remainder being decorative. The middle rivet at the left and the one in front of it, and that behind the middle one at the right, are missing. Low at the rear of the skull is a plume holder of faintly decorative form, attached by a rivet in a lateral extension at either side. It is covered in thick, black paint, beneath which it is heavily corroded. There is a large, jagged suspension hole at the front of the brim.
