Physical Description

It has a high, hemispherical skull with a narrow integral brim turned down at either side. It is made in two pieces joined in a low medial copmb, expanding slightly to the centre and turned to the right, and riveted at the brim. The main edge has a plain inward turn. The base of the skull was bordered by twelve round headed lining rivets with square internal washers, which retain parts of the canvas lining band. A pair towards the rear at either side also retained fragments of the large leathers for the missing cheekpieces. The leather and washer, however, of the forward left of these is missing. No plume holder is fitted. It is painted black. Suspension holes are pierced at the front and the left of the brim. A section of the rear of the brim at the seam, is buckled. There is a succession of linear dents at the left of the skull and brim, and few more high across the right.
