Fitted with ring-necked cock. Stocked to 4 1/8 inch of the muzzle. Some original browned finish remains on underside of barrel. Brass furniture. Screw plate lacking rear finial or spur. Steel ramrod

Inscriptions and Marks

Barrel stamped on left of breech with crowned GR over Broad Arrow and crown over crossed sceptres. Below, [T. RIYSEL] (I. RIYSEL but the name uncertain and worn). Stamped on right by pan: crown over 21, and on tang: crown over 14. Lockplate engraved with royal cypher and TOWER, and stamped with crown over Broad Arrow. Sideplate flat stamped: M . Butt stamped on right with BO below Broad Arrow pointing upwards. Underside of butt to right of guard stamped twice with crown over 21. Ramrod groove: front section (front to rear) stamped: XIIII V ; middle section: II ; crown over 2, crown over 2, crown over 3; rear section: uncertain possible mark; SUTHERLAND ; S[???] (i.e. S and three uncertain letters). Ramrod stamped: crown; [W] (i.e. W but uncertain); two uncertain marks

Displayed fitted with socket bayonet X.3086 Compare XII.111, 112, 122.
In the Inventory of the Armouries published in 1916 it is stated that the barrel of this musket bears the Birmingham proof mark BP under a crown. There is in fact no trace of any such mark on the barrel.
A musket ball was embedded in the side but this was not there when the 1999 Audit was taken.
