Physical Description

General Type Description: Leaf-shaped blade of flattened lozenge section; short conical neck with screw extension which passes through the crosspiece and into the baluster moulding of the socket; crosspiece composed of two quillons of equal size and circular section with domed terminals; socket with two reinforcing rings and equal langets with three rivets each. Varnished wooden haft of circular section. Conical iron shoe with two equal langets with one rivet each. Of generally slender construction.
Variations, losses, damage, etc: shoe missing, but one rivet remains. One langet has damaged edge. Point missing from blade. Number (presumably Inv No.) on steel plate on haft.


Dimensions: Overall length: 2613 mm (102 7/8 in), length of blade 295 mm (11 5/8 in), length of neck and socket: 111 mm (4 3/8 in), length of langets: 232 mm (9 1/8 in)

Inscriptions and Marks

On base of blade, slightly worn: King / Dublin; half way down haft, incised: two separate 'X's.
