Physical Description

It has a two piece skull with an integral peak and a seperate neckguard. The hemispherical skull is joined in a low, medial comb, turned to the left, and terminating a little above its base where, at the rear, it is also joined by a rivet. The peak, which is of broad, rounded, obtusely pointed form, is joined by a rivet at its centre, and has a plain, inward turned main edge accompanied by a recessed border. It is pierced at its centre, near the base of the skull, with a rectangular hole through which the missing, sliding nasal bar originally passed. The nasal bar was locked by a wing headed screw inserted in a threaded hole in the front of a rectangular staple, atteched by a pair of round headed rivets at the centre of the brow. The base of the skull was encircled at the front and sides only, by ten round headed lining rivets of which all are replaced; the front two also hold the staple for the nasal bar, and the rear two at each side, which attached the missing cheekpieces, have been removed. The sides of the skull have plain, inward turned edges. Attached to the rear of the skull by a round headed rivet at either side, is a one piece neckguard embossed to simulate four lames. It has a plain, inward turned main edge, accompanied by a recessed border containing thirteen round headed lining rivets of which all are replaced, and the front one at each side is also that which retains the neckguard. Each simulated lame is decorated with a single incised line and a single round headed rivet at its centre, except for the last one which is decorated in that position with three rivets in triangular formation. Attached by a pair of round headed rivets at the nape of the skull is a deep, tapering plume holder with obtusely pointed arms. The point of the neckguard has been pierced with a suspension hole. Bright.
