Physical Description

It is roughly hemispherical and of thin iron. It is made in two pieces brazed around the crown and from the crown to the nape. Its lower edge is plain and bordered by thirty nine lining holes except at the brow where there is a rectangular slot possibly for the attatchment of the hat. It is painted black overall.

The brazed seam at the rear is cut in dovetails; There is some evidence that the edges of the crown seam are also cut in dovetails. These dovetails may actually be retangular tabs overlapping a straight edge and filed down after brazing.
