Physical Description

It is of roughly hemispherical form and of thin iron. It is made of two pieces brazed around the crown and from the crown to the nape. The lower edge is plain and bordered by thirty seven lining holes, except at the brow, where there is a rectangular slot possibly for the attatchment to the hat. It is painted black.

Notes

The brazed seam at the rear is cut in dovetails; There is some evidence that the edges of the crown seam are also cut in dovetails. These dovetails may actually be retangular tabs overlapping a straight edge and filed down after brazing.
