Physical Description

It has a very high hemispherical skull with a narrow integral brim turned down at each side. It is made in two halves joined at the skull in a low medial comb and at the brim with rivets. The comb, which increases in height at its apex, is turned to the left. The brim has a plain inward turn accompanied by a recessed border containing fourteen lining rivets, with internal square washers retaining large fragments of the lining band. At each side of the base of the skull are two rivets with square internal washers retaining substantial fragments of the connecting leathers for the missing cheekpieces. Low at the rear of the skull is a plume holder of plain truncated conical form attached by two rivets on lateral extensions. It is painted black overall. The front border of the brim which is damaged is crudely pierced with one later suspension hole. At the rear left of the brim is a hole of indeterminate function.
