The main edge has a plain, inward turn with a broad sunken border probably containing originally fifteen lining rivets with square internal washers; those at the front and rear are missing, expanded into a large suspension hole at the front. The base of the skull is bordered by fourteen rivets, the middle one and that behind it have square internal washers and retain fragments of the leathers for the missing cheekpieces; the remainder are decorative. It is painted black. The rear of the brim is damaged, and the rivet to the left of centre there has an external washer.
