Provenance

Bowyer Tower, AS 87 (1989)

Physical Description

It is roughly hemispherical in form, made in two pieces brazed together around the crown and down the rear. It has subsequently cut with pairs of crude slits at the front and at either side of the rear. These slits appear to have been made by piercing a hole in the metal and then cutting a slit downwards from the hole. The lower edge is bordered by thirty lining holes. At the front, directly above this border, is a transverse rectangular slot. Between the pairs of slits at the right rear, and level with their tops, is a small pierced hole, possibly for fastening the turn-up of a hat brim. It is painted black and has a small corroded hole at the middle right side of the crown.
