Physical Description

It is roughly hemispherical in form with a slightly flattened top. It is made in one piece, cut with pairs of deep slits at the front and either side of the rear. The lower edge is bordered by eleven pairs of lining holes, level with which is a horizontal rectangular slot at the front. Between, and just above the tops of, the rear right slits is a large circular hole, possibly for fastening the upturned brim of a hat. It is painted black. There are some small dents in the crown. There is an additional gash in the lower edge between the rear left slits.
