Physical Description

It has a hemispherical skull with a narrow integral brim turned down at either side. It is made of two pieces, joined in a low comb, which expands very slightly to the centre, and is turned to the left, and riveted at the brim, the rear rivet having become detached. The main edge has a plain, inward turn bordered by a single, incised line, and by sixteen lining rivets with square internal washers; one washer is missing at the left, and one at the centre rear. The base of the skull is bordered by fourteen rivets, of which two towards the rear at either side have square washers and were for the missing cheekpieces, the remainder being decorative. Low at the rear is a rivet and a rivet hole for the missing plume holder. It is covered in black paint, and corroding vigorously inside. A suspension hole is pierced at the left rear, and the vacant rivet hole at the rear has been expanded, and seam pulled apart.
