Physical Description

It has a high, hemispherical skull with a narrow, integral brim, turned down at each side. It is made in two halves, joined at the skull in a low, medial comb, and at the brim with rivets. The comb, which increases in height at its apex, is turned to the left, while the brim has a plain, inward turn, accompanied by a recessed border originally containing eighteen round headed lining rivets with square internal washers retaining fragments of the lining band, of which the foremost is missing. The base of the skull is encircled by fourteen round headed rivets of which two on each side have square, internal washers retaining fragments of the connecting leathers for the missing cheekpieces. Attached by a pair of rivets at the nape is a tapering iron plume holder with rounded arms. The front left and rear left of the brim are pierced with later suspension holes. Both the front and rear of the brim are corroded through. Painted black.
