Physical Description

The skull is made in two pieces joined in a low comb turned to the left and terminating and riveted above the edge. The main edge has a plain inward turn, bordered by six holes for lining rivets, and three for the missing cheekpiece at either side. The neckguard flares to the neck with a blunt medial point and is embossed to simulate three lames. It is attached by a rivet at either side. The main edge has a plain inward turn bordered by seven modern rivets. Above the centre is a pair of rivet holes. The peak is flat and rounded with a medial point. It has a level flange embossed for the comb and pivoted to the skull in a swept up extension at either side. A triple bar faceguard is attached made of rectangular section bars with a bold curled finial. The outside is rough and bright.

Inscriptions and Marks

Struck on the neckguard with a cross of St. Goerge for the commonwealth. Incised inside peak, neckguard and skull XII for construction.
