Object Number

Bowyer Tower AS 37 (1989)

Physical Description

It has a high hemispherical skull, with an integral brim turned down evenly all round. The skull is made in two pieces, joined in a very low comb and riveted at the brim. It is apparently symmetrical, so no rear or front can be ascertained. The main edge has a plain, inward turn with a shallow sunken border once containing sixteen lining rivets; one at the centre of the 'right' side, and another at the 'rear', are missing, and the rest are modern. The base of the skull is encircled by fourteen modern rivets, and the cheek-pieces are long gone. No plume holder was fitted. It is bright and corroding. At the centre 'left' of the brim a flush rivet has been installed.
