Physical Description

Engraving entitled, 'Bascule pour percer les lumieres. Crochets et Chat, Moule pour fondre les Boulets de 36 ll.', showing the piercing of the vent with a bow drill, the instruments used for searching the bore and a mould for a 36 lb. cannon ball. 'Goussier Del.', 'Benard Fecit'. Trimmed, mounted and framed, with an English caption in the lower left-hand corner: 'Drilling the Vent'. Plate 19 from the article, 'Fonderie des Canons', from the 'Encyclopedie', edited by Denis Diderot and Jean Le Rond D'Alembert, 1762-1777.
