Provenance

Tower arsenal, accessioned from Lanthorn Tower, Room 3 (1989). From a cuirass captured from the French under Marshal Toiras in 1627.

Physical Description

The rear edge of the single scale is cut into four scallops beneath which are four round-headed rivets for the attachment to the backplate and to a buff leather strap, the upper and lower edges of which are broken flush with the scale. The straight lower edge is bordered by a rivet with a square internal washer at either side for the attachment to the leather strap. Each of the edges is bordered by double incised lines. Four or more scales are missing from its lower edge, including that for the attachment to the breastplate.
