Physical Description

It has a low neck, a medial keel and a broad flange at the waist widening to a point at the centre. The main and side edges have plain inward turns, bordered by 28 domed headed lining rivets of which 1 is missing, and by small homes for sewing a leather binding. At either side of the chest is a mushroom-headed stud for the shoulder straps. The surface was bright but is corroded and varnished. The edge of the flange has been trimed and new rivet holes drilled before the binding holes were added. At either shoulder are two broken out rivet holes where the shoulders have ben modified.(Acquisitions register lists as French, c.1810)
