Physical Description

It widens towards the bottom and is formed of six upward overlapping lames. The upper lames are missing. The lower edge has a continuously roped inward turn, with a recessed border enclosed by an embossed rib. The side edges have plain partial turns, and the subsidiary edges have single incised lines. The lames are articulated by a column of (originally) brass-capped, round headed rivets at either side, the inside column having an extra rivet at the base to simulate leathering. At the centre is an internal leather, attached to each lame by a large-dome headed flush rivet, and to the lower lame by a brass capped round head with a squarish washer. Lames one, four and six have flush lining rivets at the outside, as do two and five on the inside. The lower edge was disposed by five flush lining rivets, of which the second from the inside is missing.
