Physical Description

It is narrow, with a slight medial ridge, formed of six upward overlapping lames, widening towards the lower end, and cut away at the crotch. The upper lame has a small step at its inner edge. The lower lame is deep. The lower edge has a flattened continuously roped inward turn with a recessed border enclosed by a slight rib. The other main edges are plain. The subsidiary edges are bordered by single incised lines. The lames are fastened together at the outside by a column of round-headed rivets with large, irregular washers. At the centre and inside were internal leathers, each attached by a column of rivets, and terminating in flush rivets at the base. The upper rivet of the centre leathers passes through the base. The upper rivet of the centre leathers passes through lame two, riveting them solidly. The line of the inner leather is decorated with a column of round-headed rivets in the construction holes. At either side of lames one, three and five is a flush lining rivet, and a fragment of leather lining band remains at the lower left. The lower edge is bordered five large, flush lining rivets. The upper lame has a row of three rivet holes for the missing buckles, the inner with a rivet fragment, the outer with a rivet retaining part of the hasp. The lames are riveted together with a column of crude rivets between the former leathers. At either side of the centre of the upper edge is a suspension hole. Lame two has an extraneous rivet hole beside its central rivet.
