Physical Description

Made in one piece and embossed to simulate seven lames, the lowest one deeper than those above. The side and lower edges have plain, inward turns, with recessed borders containing thirteen round-headed lining rivets with square internal washers. The upper edges of the embossed lames are plain. The upper edge was bordered by three such rivets, of which the innermost is missing, and there is another at the centre. The tasset is decorated with three columns of embossed simulated rivets, terminating in upward-pointing triangles of three at the base. At either side of the centre of the upper edge, modern leather strap and buckle is fitted. The original hinged hasps are missing, but there are two additional holes for the outer one, and three pairs of rivet holes for the various inner ones; the rivet hole by which the strap is attached and a filled hole beside it, and a pair above and below. The exterior is bright, patinated and lacquered.
