Physical Description

It is broad and deep, widening towards its lower end and is formed of six embossed simulated lames. The sides and lower edge have a plain inward turn accompanied by a recessed border in which are eighteen rivets for the attachment of the lining band. There are three decorative rivets across each of the simulated lames forming three column each of which terminates in a decorative triangular formation on the lowest lame. Hinged hasps were originally attached by a pair or rivets close to either side of the centre. The lower part of a latter, probably 19th century hasp, is attached at either side by a rivet on the first and second lames. It is painted black overall. All the rivets are modern with round internal washers.
