Physical Description

It is broad, widening towards its lower end and formed of six embossed simulated lames. The inner top corner is cropped so that the left tasset may lie comfortably above it. The sides and lower edge have a plain inward turn and are bordered by fifteen brass-capped lining rivets with square internal washers retaining fragments of the lining band. There are three decorative brass-capped rivets across each of the simulated lames forming three columns each of which terminate in a decorative triangular formation on the lowest lame. At either side of the centre are hinged hasps, each attached by a pair of brass capped rivets on the first lame and a single one on the second. The hasps are both original but of different size, the smaller one being on the other side. Each has a long lower part, that on the inner side with two brass-capped decorative rivets. The upper sections are of an inverted 'L' shape with a rectangular slot at the centre and a swivel hook at the branch, that on the outer side is broken. It is painted black overall. There is some damage at each of the corners of the main edges.
