Physical Description

It is broad and deep of trapezoidal form, with six embossed lames. The sides and lower edge have a plain inward turn accompanied by a recessed border in which are eighteen brass-capped rivets with round internal washers retaining a substantial potion of the canvas lining band at either side. There are three brass-capped decorative rivets with round internal washers retaining a substantial portion of the canvas lining band at either side. There are three brass-capped decorative rivets across each of the simulated lames forming these columns which terminate in a decorative triangular arrangement. A hasp is attached at either side by a pair of rivets on the first lame and a rivet on the second lame. The lower section is rectangular tapering to a cusped ogee shaped finial. The upper section is an inverted L-shape cut with a rectangular slot for the passing of the staple on the breastplate which was secured by a swivel hook riveted to the branch of the L. It is painted black overall.
