The sides and lower edge have a plain, inward turn accompanied by a recessed border containing twenty-four decorative round-headed brass rivets. The tasset is decorated with three columns of round headed brass rivets; each column formed of a single rivet at the upper edge of each simulated lame, except the last, which has three rivets in a triangular formation. A rivet on the fifth and sixth of the inner column has a round internal washer, while a rivet on the fourth and two on the sixth have similar washers. To either side of the central column a replacement hinged hasp is attached by a pair of rivets on the first lame and a single rivet on the second. A further pair of purely decorative rivets occurs half way down the lower end of the hasp, which is obtusely pointed. The upper end of the hasp which is obtusely pointed. The upper end of the hasp is of an inverted L shaped form with a swivel hook riveted at the terminal of its outward directed branch, which engaged pierced stud on the breastplate that protruded through an adjacent rectangular slot. It is painted black overall.
