Physical Description

It is of trapezoidal form, made in one piece, and embossed to simulate six lames, the lowest one deep. The sides and lower edge have plain, inward turns with recessed borders. The upper edges of the embossed lames are bordered by single incised lines. The tasset is decorated with three columns of round-headed decorative rivets; each column has a rivet at the upper edge of each simulated lame, with a triangle of three at the base. At either side of the centre is the lower half of a hinged hasp. Each is attached by a vertical pair of round-headed rivets with internal washers, the lower one in a transverse slot to allow movement. Each hasp is straight sided with a point the base. The upper part of each hasp, which would be permanently riveted to the breastplate, is missing. The exterior is bright but considerably corroded.
